Ian Assersohn
Musical Director
Ian is an experienced and highly regarded choral director and has been leading the choir since 2014. He also directs Leatherhead Choral Society, which has led since 2001, and Vaughan Williams Singers, an auditioned chamber choir which he found in 2018.
Ian is a successful composer and arranger. His music, which is popular with choirs and audiences both in the UK and abroad, is published by Oxford University Press and by his own imprint, Apple Tree Music.
Ian's setting of Tennyson's poem Crossing The Bar, which has become part of EMVC's core repertoire as well as entering the repertoire of many other choirs, won the prestigious Cornwall International Male Choral Festival's composition competition in 2014.
Ian studied at the Royal College of Music in London and the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. He is a grade examiner for ABRSM, teaches privately and sits on the council of ABCD (The Association of British Choral Directors)
